GANGARTEN go your gait! part 6_exchangeLinz as rhythmically mirrored by its Partner and Friendship Cities
Ways of walking (gaits) are among the most distinctively individual human movement patterns – almost like fingerprints. Through the sound of footsteps they become audible for us; the regularity with which we place one foot in front of the other generates our unique rhythm. A form of individuality that we show almost exclusively in a public place, since it needs both time and space.Based on my recently realized project Platzstudien [Place Studies], I will go to public squares in Linz and its Partner/Friendship Cities and record them with audio and video. The spaces themselves (architecture, pavement patterns, surroundings, etc.), with their streams of movement and “gaits”, generate the score. A 5–10 minute video score will be created for each Partner and Friendship City, as well as for Linz.
Then, from the collected individual rhythms, Go your gait! part 6_exchange determines the average walking rhythms in each place and weaves them into a single unifying Gesamtkomposition.
The finished works will be presented in each of the participating cities, and the project in its entirety will be presented in Linz. In addition, a DVD will document all the works.
