The town twinning between Linz und Braşov can be credited to the initiative of Dr. Wolfgang Berger-Vogel, the Romanian Honorary Consul in Linz. In the beginning, partnerships with Constanza or Tulcea were also under consideration. But the choice was made in 2006, when Braşov was the first of the three cities to declare its readiness to cooperate. An official delegation visited the Brucknerfest in Linz in 2007, and Linz was in turn Braşov’s guest in 2008. The current focus is on the exchange of information on community infrastructure, district heating, and municipal services. (Oliver Theusl, town twinning coordinator, city of Linz)
Braşov not only cultivates an exchange with Linz; the two cities also are linked in partnership with Tampere. From the tower of the former town hall, one looks out over the city’s rooftops and over all of Piaţa Sfatului [Council Square]. From this elevated position, the multiplicity of forms and patterns in the square’s pavement is especially striking. A few steps bridging a slight difference of levels on the square are designed in such a way that people walk across the square without altering the flow of their gaits.
Pigeons are constant inhabitants of Piaţa Sfatului – high up in the tower by night, by day on the square where their cooing blends in with the changing soundscape.
